Key West Fishing
Calendar-Seasons
Since we are already 135 miles out into the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico, the fishing in Key West is good all year round.
Below are best times to fish for certain species
Tarpon: A small run in Feb but the main run is March- June. Tarpon fishing will die out for a few days around cold fronts. Don't bother looking for Tarpon with a NW wind
Sailfish: Best is January-May. After fronts pass Sailfishing is best.
Tuna: November - March is best
Kingfish: November - March
Dolphin: March - August. March usually brings a good run of large fish while the bigger schools of the medium and small fish hang around all summer along with some big fish.
Cobia: March-April is prime for big fish cruising wrecks and rockpiles. Cobia can be found all summer long.
Grouper: All year long but best when water is cooler from November-May. February and March Grouper fishing is great in shallow water
Snapper: All year long. Yellowtail prefer warmer water of summer and big Muttons prefer deeper water.
Mackerel: December - April. Rough winter days you will find Mackerel on the surface almost anywhere.
Barracuda: All year long
SHARKS: All year long but February - March best for fly fishing
Amberjack: All year on wrecks but best is cooler water months November - May
Permit: Best is March-May on wrecks
This is just a guide as we have caught big Cobia in September as well as large Kingfish in July.
